Work with tutors who know the band descriptors, not just the format. Every lesson is built around the part of your speaking that is actually costing you the band.

Not a syllabus of grammar points. A diagnostic sequence built around the one thing costing you the result.
A full mock speaking test. Your tutor scores you against the four public descriptors: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, pronunciation — and names the one that is capping you.
Targeted drills on the limiting criterion. If it is lexical resource, you build topic banks. If it is fluency, you train linking and self-repair, not speed.
Timed long turns, follow-up questioning in the examiner style, and recorded playback so you hear your own habits.
One more full test under exam conditions, compared against your first. You leave with a realistic band range, not a promise.
Filtered to tutors who specialise in this goal.

No, and any tutor who does is selling you something they cannot control. The examiner is independent, the test is one sample of your speaking on one day, and scores move for reasons outside a tutor's hands. What we can do is tell you honestly which criterion is capping you, drill it, and give you a realistic range before you book a test.
It depends entirely on which criterion is limiting and how far the gap is. A student whose only issue is Part 2 structure can move in 6–10 lessons. A student whose grammar accuracy is the cap usually needs 20+. Your tutor should tell you their estimate after the first two lessons, in writing.
Tutors use publicly available sample questions and their own materials written to the public band descriptors. We do not sell or distribute copyrighted Cambridge test papers.
Yes. Your First Open Mic is a 25-minute diagnostic conversation with an IELTS tutor. You will leave with the name of your limiting criterion and one drill to start on — whether or not you buy a package.
