OpenMic English is a marketplace that connects adult learners (18+) with independent English tutors. Tutors are independent contractors, not employees. OpenMic English provides the platform, payments, scheduling and quality control.
You must be 18 or over. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account details and for activity under your login. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms or behave abusively toward tutors or staff.
Buying a package grants lesson credits to your account, valid for 12 months from purchase. One credit is consumed when a 50-minute lesson is completed, after tutor confirmation and a 24-hour dispute window. Free trial lessons consume no credit and are limited to one per student, usable with up to two different tutors.
Rescheduling is free up to 12 hours before a lesson. Inside 12 hours the lesson counts as delivered unless the tutor agrees otherwise in the dashboard. Student no-shows forfeit the credit; a missed trial counts as the trial used. Tutor no-shows restore the credit and trigger a quality review. Unused credits are refundable pro-rata minus a $25 administration fee; delivered lessons are never refundable. Refunds are issued only by OpenMic English, never by a tutor.
Lessons take place on Zoom using the tutor's link. Both parties agree to behave professionally, to arrive on time, and not to record a lesson without the other party's in-lesson consent. Tutors may not solicit payment off-platform or offer discounts outside the published pricing. Students may not record and redistribute lesson material for commercial use.
We do not guarantee any test score, band, interview outcome or timeline. Tutors provide instruction and feedback; results depend on many factors outside our control, including the independent examiner, the test conditions and your own practice.
Payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal. We do not store card details. Prices are in USD and may change for future purchases; a purchase is charged at the price shown at checkout.
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding three months. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
